ENGLISH
Klimatkvartetten (”The Climate Quartet”) is a string trio comprising violinist Terhi Paldanius, violist Ulla Knuuttila, and cellist Joanna Hanhikoski. The group’s core mission is to highlight societal issues regarding nature conservation and the climate crisis by fostering encounters between art and science.
The fourth member of Klimatkvartetten varies from project to project and may be, for instance, a climate scientist, composer, author, or fellow musician. Through innovative collaborations, the ensemble seeks to build community and promote the exchange of knowledge and perspectives across disciplinary boundaries. Klimatkvartetten’s work is supported by the Kone Foundation.
The ensemble has previously collaborated with figures such as author Iida Turpeinen, researchers from the University of Jyväskylä, and environmental psychologist Prof. Dr. Christian A. Klöckner. Klimatkvartetten has also premiered a miniature work for string trio by composer Aulis Sallinen.
Klimatkvartetten performs in traditional concert halls as well as in forests, at festivals, and in schools. Through its work, the trio aims to inspire a more sustainable lifestyle and demonstrate that reducing overconsumption need not result in a less fulfilling life. On the contrary, it can create space for new experiences and deepen one’s connection to nature.
Through its activities, the ensemble seeks to help protect the planet’s finite resources and make climate and environmental issues accessible to everyone, regardless of where or how the audience encounters them.

Christian A. Klöckner.
